About Dr Spelman

Dr Christopher Spelman is an Australian fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon. He currently holds a public appointments at Prince of Wales Hospital and Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick, and practices privately through Orthosports offices at Randwick, Concord and Hurstville. Dr Spelman also provides consultations for paediatric patients in Canberra.

Dr Spelman completed his medical degree at Monash University and subsequently completed his orthopaedic training in public hospitals throughout New South Wales. He has a Masters degree in Sports Medicine from The University of Queensland.

Dr Spelman’s post fellowship training focussed on management of hip and knee disorders and trauma surgery across all ages. He completed subspecialty training at The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne as the hip and sports fellow, and at the Children’s Hospital Westmead focussing on paediatric hip conditions and limb reconstruction. He also completed a fellowship at Prince of Wales and Sydney Children’s Hospital, specialising in hip and knee conditions in both children and adults.

Dr Spelman is passionate about working collaboratively with his patients to achieve the best health outcomes. He will take the time to understand your individual needs and concerns, and will ensure any proposed treatment plan addresses those needs. Dr Spelman provides holistic care and works collaboratively with other health professionals including physiotherapists and sports medicine physicians.

Outside of work, Dr Spelman spends the majority of his time preventing his children from becoming his patients. He is an avid skier, die hard Brisbane Broncos supporter and Geelong Football Club tragic. Dr Spelman’s initial interest in orthopaedic surgery arose at a young age when he incurred many injuries as a competitive athlete, and understands the the importance of finding the right treatment at the right time to optimise your recovery and return to doing what you love.
